PTA Mission & Purpose
Overview of PTA

"Parent-Teacher Association" and "PTA" are registered
service marks of the National Congress of Parents and
Teachers (National PTA). Only those groups chartered by the
New York State PTA are entitled to use the name "PTA".
Any other use constitutes trademark infringement.

A local PTA is a constituent organization organized under
the authority of the New York State Congress of Parents and
Teachers, Inc. (the New York State PTA), a branch of the
National Congress of Parents and Teachers
(the National PTA).

Articles of Organization

The articles of organization of a constituent organization
include (a) the bylaws of such organization and (b) the
certificate of incorporation or articles of incorporation of the
organization (in cases which the organization is a
corporation) or the articles of association by whatever name
(in cases in which the organization exists as an
unincorporated association).
PTA Mission

The mission of the PTA is threefold:

   To support and speak on behalf of children and
youth in the schools, in the community, and before
governmental bodies and other organizations that
make decisions affecting children; and

   To assist parents in developing the skills they need
to raise and protect their children; and

   To encourage parent and public involvement in the
public schools of this nation.
PTA Purposes:

   To promote the welfare of children and youth in
home, school, community and place of worship.

   To raise the standards of home life.

   To secure adequate laws for the care and
protection of children and youth.

   To bring into closer relation the home and the
school, that parents and teachers may cooperate
intelligently in the education of children and youth.

   To develop between educators and the general
public such united efforts as will secure for all children
and youth the highest advantages in physical, mental,
social and spiritual education.
What is a Region?
About Nassau Region
Nassau Region PTA is a geographical
division of New York State PTA
representing over 97,000 members.

Members include parents, teachers,
students, school board members,
administrators and others interested in
working for the well-being of children and
youth, through parent education and child
advocacy.

Nassau Region PTA services over 300
units and 37 councils and is committed to
uniting the home, school and community
in promoting the education, health, and
welfare of children, youth and families.

    Nassau Region PTA:

  Organizes and provides assistance to councils
and units. Plans and conducts conferences,
workshops, and schools of instruction for units
and councils.

  Lobbies on PTA issues.

  Interprets PTA policies and programs.

  Sends a newsletter, the LEADER, to
presidents, superintendents, and legislators;
additional subscriptions may be ordered at a
nominal cost.

  Has PTA publications and jewelry available
through the Publications/Boutique Chairman.

  Provides guides and fact sheets on areas of
interest to PTA.
